Back by popular demand! Saskatchewan's own award-winning singer-songwriter pianist Jeffery Straker is set to perform another series of concerts in prairie grain elevators this summer.
Departing Ogema, arrive by train at the historic 1922 Federal grain elevator in Horizon. The concert in this unique grain elevator setting will feature many of Jeffery's songs including some from his latest release "Great Big Sky", nominated for a 2025 Canadian Folk Music Award. Last year's listeners learned that the acoustics in this old elevator are fantastic.
Jeffery was recently featured performing in a national broadcast on CBC Radio's "The Current", and he found a new fan in His Majesty King Charles III after his album (somehow) made its way into Buckingham Palace. He's been chosen by the National Arts Centre to represent Canada performing at Expo '25 in Osaka, Japan later this summer. All aboard!
Prior to the train ride to Horizon for the concert, we will visit the Deep South Pioneer Museum. The Deep South Pioneer Museum (DSPM), located in Ogema, Saskatchewan, is the largest community owned museum in western Canada. With 31 buildings on ten acres of grounds, plus more than 150 pieces of vintage farm machinery, the collection of the DSPM is a treasure trove of pioneer artifacts.
Come explore the past at DSPM's pioneer village, discover the evolution of prairie farming by examining its machinery collection, and catch a glimpse of the distant past with ancient fossils and aboriginal artifacts. You will never think of the "Deep South" the same way again.
The Big Muddy badlands are an amazing spectacle of nature’s architecture and conjure up images of outlaws from the “wild west.”
Ride the rails through stunning prairies, experience local culture at Pangman's market and nostalgic café, enjoy included lunch, and explore western Canada's largest pioneer museum!
