Come with us for a 45 minute leisurely train ride through relaxing countryside not usually seen from Highway 13. We see wildlife, sloughs, and a ravine as we make our way to the neighbouring village of Pangman where you will find a small open-air market of local crafts, baked goodies and seasonal produce.
After visiting the market, walk one block to Ronnie's on Railway where you can enjoy an ice cream treat or hot dog or hamburger in a retro styled café which features a working jukebox. The Pangman and Area Museum is also located in this building. Across the street from Ronnie's is the Local Cottage Thrift Shop where you can find some great buys. The visit to Pangman is one hour before we return to the Ogema Train Station.
Have a delicious lunch in the community hall before we make our way to the Deep South Pioneer Museum.
The Deep South Pioneer Museum (DSPM), located in Ogema, Saskatchewan, is the largest community owned museum in western Canada. With 31 buildings on ten acres of grounds, plus more than 150 pieces of vintage farm machinery, the collection of the DSPM is a treasure trove of pioneer artifacts.
Come explore the past at DSPM's pioneer village, discover the evolution of prairie farming by examining its machinery collection, and catch a glimpse of the distant past with ancient fossils and aboriginal artifacts. You will never think of the "Deep South" the same way again.
