The Big Muddy badlands are located in Southern Saskatchewan. They evoke images of lawless scoundrels from the "wild west" and are an amazing display of nature's architecture. Castle Butte is a one-of-a-kind monument, and you won't want to miss this trip!
Castle Butte is a unique landmark in the Big Muddy badlands. It is a sandstone and clay-based formation that was formed during the ice age and contains alkali and coal deposits. The Butte is a popular spot as it offers breathtaking views of the surrounding area. Rising 70 metres in height, it also served as a landmark to First Nations people, the NWMP and early settlers.
We also tour the Outlaw Caves where fugitives from the USA and Canada laid low, the Circle Y Ranch where Tammy Burgess recounts tales from the history of The Big Muddy while we sit down to our bagged lunch!
